Many Americans have an affinity for the historic pastime of baseball, including Aaron Matthew Breslow, an internet blogger who enjoys talking about baseball on his various blogs and websites. Aaron Matthew Breslow is one example of a young blogger carrying the torch of spreading his passion of baseball all over the country through his use of the internet.
Baseball has affected almost every American in one way or another. Growing up, many of us collected baseball cards, attended local games to cheer on our favorite team, or played little league baseball to live out every little boy’s dream of becoming a professional baseball player. The original origin of baseball though is something of debate amongst fans. Baseball was created out of early folk games which started in England. It is important to keep in mind that different variations of baseball have been played around the world for centuries, so where it originally started is hard to pin point.
It seems that baseball started in America in the early 1800’s and has gone through many different names. The first group that organized baseball was the National Association of Base Ball Players, also known as the NABBP. This group started in 1857. Around 1875 there was an active movement to put official rules in place, which was initiated by a second group, the National Association of Professional Base Ball Players. The group made rules, kept scores and records of games, and insisted on professionalism in baseball. There were many clubs at the time, most located on the east coast and centralized around New York.
In 1867 they decided that only white Americans could play baseball, which eventually led to a Negro League being instituted around 1920. Although the first Negro team started in 1885, the league that began in 1887 failed quickly due to low attendance and popularity. Throughout the early to mid 1900’s there were several Negro leagues that became popular. In 1945, black players began being signed, and in 1948 the Negro leagues basically folded due to lack of popularity as the sport became increasingly integrated.
Over the years, baseball spread west, and more and more teams were added to the two baseball leagues in the United States and Canada. Beginning in 1994, both leagues were split into 3 divisions, the East, West and Central, and a wild card, to allow a 4th team that had the best record of every team that finished in 2nd place, to go into the divisional playoffs each season, leading to one representative of both the American and National Leagues to play in the World Series.
Currently as of 2010, there are 16 teams in the National League and 14 in the American League. Although baseball has gone through many changes and increases and decreases in popularity over the years, it is still a great pastime for almost every American, to watch and to play. For more information on the history of baseball, a good place to look is the blog of Aaron Matthew Breslow.

Batter up! Well, almost. Spring training for Major League Baseball starts next month, and the season will be here before we know it. Ditto for the 2011 Little League season. That means now is the perfect time to craft the design of your team’s baseball trading pins for the coming season.
Yes, many of you are still shoveling snow as you read this, but it’s never too early to plan ahead for trading pin season. Look at it this way – designing baseball trading pins is a lot more fun than watching the early rounds of American Idol.
No matter whether you’re a seasoned veteran or a promising rookie when it comes to ordering baseball trading pins, you can still hit a home run! It’s easy and fun to design great pins that every other team will want to trade for.
For starters, talk to your players. They will recall the best and worst baseball trading pins from last year. Ask them which pins they really liked and wanted to trade for. Ask which ones didn’t interest them, and why. Discuss the differences to get a feel for what your players like. Chances are good that players on your opposing teams thought exactly the same way. Great baseball trading pins appeal to just about everyone.
How were your own team’s pins last season? Did they trade fast and furiously, or did they strike out? If you had great baseball trading pins last year, it’s great to stick with a winning design. On the other hand, if your team’s baseball trading pins left something to be desired, don’t worry. It just takes a little planning and a little help from a great trading pin supplier to create pins that will be the hit of the tournaments this year.
Consider the size of last season’s pins. Were your team’s pins big enough? That’s a really basic rule of crafting great baseball trading pins – bigger pins ALWAYS trade better than smaller ones. The extra real estate gives you more room to get creative and show off flashy design elements.
The great thing about custom baseball trading pins is that you’re really only limited by your imagination when it comes to design. If you can imagine it, the graphic artists at any good provider of baseball trading pins can turn your design into terrific-looking trading pins.
The best way to make your baseball trading pins more valuable to traders is to add options. A well-designed pin with options that rock will trade for two or sometimes even three more ordinary pins.
Glitter enamel is a great place to start. This easy, economical add-on is a terrific way to add sparkle and a rich presence to your baseball trading pins. Consider it the most basic option, then get adventurous with others.
Danglers are a great way to specify the year of the tournament your team plays in. They’re also flexible, allowing you to replace them each year without the expense of replacing the entire baseball trading pins.
Blinking LED lights are a fantastic option for baseball trading pins that feature a mascot. You can give that mascot blinking eyes, a terrific eye-catching feature.
If you really want some rockin’ baseball trading pins, add motion. You can choose from spinners, sliders and bobble heads to give your pins an element of play and impossible-to-miss motion. The more they move, the better your baseball trading pins will trade.
Remember, now is the time to get your baseball trading pins designed and approved. Order early to make sure you have your baseball trading pins in time for the big game. A good provider of baseball trading pins can help you craft the pins that everyone else at the ballpark will want.
BaseballPins offers the best baseball trading pins at the lowest wholesale prices in the industry. We feature the finest baseball trading pins you can find anywhere with the best options and the fastest delivery times in the business.

Women in baseball…In the early 20th century, barnstorming teams known as Bloomer Girls were formed in parts of the U.S. and took on amateur and semi-professional teams that included both women and men.
It is thought that women in baseball first came to be because of an attempt to profit from the “novelty” of female players.
In 1931, Jackie Mitchell signed a contract with the minor league Chattanooga Lookouts. Mitchell pitched against the New York Yankees and struck out their two star players, Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig!!! Since then, in 1952, organized baseball formally banned women from signing professional contracts with mens teams. This is still in effect today!
Women in baseball were about to increase, as World War II arose, many men were sent out to fight. This ment that the women had to step in to keep the game of baseball alive until the return of the men. It when then that the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) was founded with four teams; the Rockford Peaches, the Racine Belles, the Kenosha Comets and the South Bend Blue Sox. The amount of women in baseball soared!
Rules encouraging the wearing of lipstick and long hair on the women in baseball were declared. Also the banning of wearing trousers off the field.
Initially, the women played fast-pitch softball with a larger ball and underhand pitching. In 1948 overhand pitching was introduced, and eventually there was not much difference between mens baseball and AAGPBL women’s baseball. The women’s baseball game evolved using men’s baseball rules, but with a few small changes…80 feet between bases, 55 feet for the pitching distance and only nine players on the field.
The AAGPBL finally folded in 1954, due to the televising of major league baseball in the 1950’s. But the spirit of the women of baseball was to live on, as on November 5, 1988, the All American Girls Professional Baseball League enshrined memorabilia in the Hall of Fame, Cooperstown, New York. More than 550 names are on a plaque in the exhibit named “Women In Baseball”.
Currently, there are roughly 40 youth and women’s baseball teams in the United States that play in roughly nine leagues and independent tournaments throughout the year.

Youth baseball leagues are up and running across North America, and around the globe. The game is very popular in Japan, Taiwan, Mexico, the Caribbean, and in South America. Millions of kids look forward to playing on their local teams. It’s a chance to meet new friends, travel to other parks or cities, and to be on a ball team. It’s the camaraderie that makes playing baseball a fun event.
The practicing however is often a different matter, especially catching baseballs. In what is a pretty easygoing sport, kids have to catch baseballs moving along a good clip. They’ll have to learn catching skills, such as fielding balls that will bounce along with ground unpredictably or line drives that move toward them at a high speed. They may be kids, but some can hit the ball very well. For the kid that doesn’t know how to catch properly or doesn’t have a very good glove, there are few more angst-ridden activities than catching baseballs.
Leather baseball gloves have been around a long time. If you’ve been to the Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame, you may have seen some unusual looking antique gloves and wondered how they could have caught a baseball with them. For those of us old timers who have been around long enough to actually use some of those antique gloves, we can tell you that it was not easy. They were stiff, heavy, clumsy, and tough to manipulate with your hand when they were new, and it wasn’t long before they wore out to a limp clump of hide that often let the ball fly right through it. Catching was an art, and stinging fingers and bruised shins were all part of the experience of playing youth baseball.
Youth Baseball Gloves
With those stiff or floppy youth baseball gloves, you’d wonder why kids didn’t give up on the game. Well, truth is, many youths wouldn’t play baseball or gave up for that very reason. They didn’t want to have any part of trying to catch a hot, bobbling grounder on uneven ground. Kids are the same way today. If it’s too unpleasant to use the equipment and play the game the way it is meant to be played, then they might think, “why bother?”
New Baseball Gloves and New Materials
Glove manufacturers today have designed them so they’re ready to play with. Instead of stiff, thick cowhide leather composing the whole glove, modern kids ball gloves are made of numerous materials including pigskin. Cowhide may be used where it is needed most, but these gloves are designed for comfort and performance. They almost feel like they can catch the ball themselves.
The design of youth baseball gloves is done with the child’s hand eye coordination and physical skills in mind. The physical skill of an adult means adult gloves can be made differently depending on the nature of the position they play, and with more webbing to allow them to snare baseballs a little more easily. A child’s finger dexterity and strength aren’t fully developed, so they’re not going to be able to use a glove with the skill of an older youth or adult ball player. There are gloves for young tots, something that couldn’t be done decades ago.
Additional helpful features of today’s youth baseball gloves, such as anti-microbial treatments, which keep bacteria at bay. It’s hot in the summer and your child’s hand will sweat inside the glove.
Franklin Sports Gloves
With the physiology and coordination of youth ball players in mind, Franklin Sports has designed a wide range of quality youth baseball gloves. Their leather ball gloves range in size and styles but all are designed for comfort in how they fit the child’s hand and how the leather is stitched. The result is an outstanding ball glove that will feel like a natural extension of the child’s arm. On models for older youths, the gloves are all leather with deep pockets and lengths up to 12.5 inches. That’s plenty of glove for making tough catches.
With a Franklin baseball glove, your child won’t have the same frustration or soreness from learning new baseball skills. Perhaps they’ll avoid the stinging fingers, summer sweat that sees smelly bacteria forming inside the glove, and bruised shins that take some of the fun out of playing. A good glove won’t rid your child of those embarrassing moments when they miss a catch, but it will increase their comfort level. They’ll be able to relax and they’ll be more confident that they can learn their fielding skills.

Collecting and trading baseball cards is something your father and grandfather may have done too. Talk to your father and he will most likely tell you all about his prized rookie card and how he used to swap baseball cards with his buddies at the candy store on the weekends. This is a great hobby and has baseball fans eager for the detection of a rare, complete quality collection of baseball cards. Outstanding for people of all ages, everyone – including you – you should look into baseball cards collections as a worthwhile hobby.
It is very important to know how to spot a good deal. You are going to have to invest a little bit of money into your hobby to start your baseball card collection (unless you were fortunate to get a starter set.) Check sports card stores in your area, but before you pay the full price for baseball cards available, you need to get to know the value of each one. Pricing guides serve this exact purpose. If you are considering buying or trading, be sure to check the condition of the card. You can get an idea of the type of baseball cards that are worth buying for collecting and or trading, by looking at the pricing guide.
Decide how much value you place in the card. A guide is only a price indicator – what really matters is how attached you are to any single card you have – how much that baseball card truly means to you. It is okay too, if you are willing to shell out more money to get a holographic baseball card of your favorite player. Collecting and trading baseball cards is a great hobby, it’s fun and interesting. On the other hand, you aren’t obligated to accept a trade or price for your baseball card if you think it isn’t worthwhile.
Let your precious baseball cards stay close to your heart, and only let them go when the trade price and the feelings are right.
Search in a pal’s collection for cards that you want to own. The benefit of trading baseball cards is that most of the time no money has to be exchanged. Pore over your pal’s collection of ball cards and set aside those you’re dying to own. Get your friend, display every baseball cards you can spare, and work out whatever deals that seem acceptable to the both of you. In many cases, one of you may have to swap some lesser value cards to get the especially wanted one. It’s as simple as handing over the baseball cards that have been traded once your both are happy with the terms of the trade. At that point ownership changes hands.
Every now and then supplement your baseball card collection with new ones. Though you can enjoy buying and trading used baseball cards, it is better to purchase a new pack of baseball cards once in a while. You can find a real winner hidden in a pack of baseball cards. Sporting stores, as well as grocery and department stores, have these readily available. You might get a whole collection of series or baseball cards just from what you find in packs. Purchase a few packages and begin augmenting your MLB card collection.

This article is an introduction to baseball gloves for people not really acquainted with the game or perhaps who want to shop for gloves for their son for the very first time. Baseball players put on gloves, also called mitts. These baseball mitts are constructed with leather, and you can select among different types. They are utilized by all players including specific baseball gloves for 1st basemen or catchers on the defending team. The baseball gloves come in handy when the catcher or another defensive player wants to reel in a throw that is chucked by his teammate.
Gloves weren\’t used in the old times. Catchers used to play using bare hands. However , the era of the bare handed baseball players have ended; now a days, players employ baseball gloves. One of the very first players, to make use of the glove was Doug Alison who played along with the Cincinnati Red Stockings. It was in the 1870’s even though Charles Waite is usually credited for having used it first. Spalding has been one of the manufacturers which produced and still produces baseball mitts and other sporting products. Around 1920, Bill Doak proposed that the baseball mitt had a webbing located in between the thumb and the first finger as a way to make a glove pocket that can help the catcher or first basemen snatch the ball easier.
The innovative style and design soon became the standard for a baseball mitt. Just after, baseball gloves likewise grew to a size where a ball could be caught with only one hand in lieu of employing two hands as was the case before. These days, the design and the measurement regarding baseball gloves are governed by the baseball rules. Present day baseball mitts are manufactured to be a lot more precise and more efficient. Numerous manufacturers have created various kinds of baseball gloves as a way to meet various player needs. The best quality baseball gloves are constructed from heavy leather. You\’ll find many types of baseball gloves. Catcher mitts usually lack individual fingers. They often contain more cushioning and the shape resembles a claw which can help the catcher to grab the ball at high speeds.
Sizes of the mitts unlike other baseball mitts are calculated around their circumference and they\’ve about 32 – 34 inch styles on them. Several companies construct baseball gloves or mitts, a few of them are Wilson and their popular serial A2000, Nokona and Rawlings gloves. Wilson’s mitt, universally known by its initial stock number A2000, was firstconstructed in 1957 as an infield mitt. Now the numerous A2000 designs include gloves for the Pitcher, Catcher, Infield, Outfield, First Base roles. They actually have a new A2000 Showcase. Nokona features superb high quality gloves of their own, they include popular models & names such as Bloodline, Buffalo Combo, Kimera, Pro-Line, Black Shadow, American Pro, Elite, Khrome. Rawlings, the most well-known glove company has various gloves for different positions; additionally they offer the premier line of youth baseball gloves in the industry. They are available in an array of different selling prices, from really cheap to the expensive types. Rawlings glove series are Primo, Pro Preferred, Heart of the Hide, and Heart of the Hide Dual Core. Even though all these gloves are made by different manufacturers they select different leathers for making the baseball gloves. The leathers can be kangaroo, buffalo or cowhide. The mitts are typically machine made although customized mitts are also available.
These baseball gloves are produced manually and possess a distinct style of their very own and therefore are somewhat more expensive. The type of mitt that you pick out should depend with a few aspects such as the age of the little leaguer and the level of play. The cost is also a key point when choosing a softball or baseball glove. Any additional money expended on the glove is worthwhile.

My Baseball StoryI love this game. It has been half century since I started to fall in love with baseball. The romance is still going strong. Playing, coaching, watching, listening, and reading about baseball has been part of my every day life sine I was 15 years old. Even in the dead of winter when baseball is on the back pages of the newspaper I will find out what new development has occurred or who has been signed or traded.I want to write and read about all types of baseball stories that are inspiring. Why not? Isn’t being inspired a great way to live? Isn’t offering others an expression of what you love the ultimate gift?I discovered my need to write and gather inspiring stories about baseball as I drove on route 80 in Northen New Jersey in February 2004. I started thinking about the movies I have seen and the stories I have read that I loved. Like The Lou Gehrig story Pride of the Yankees. or stories about Babe Ruth. Why did I like these stories? What was “My” definition of a great story? I was fixed on finding an answer .I started thinking about the movie Field of Dreams, one of my all time favorites. Why did I like this corny movie so much? Was Field of Dreams a metaphor for living out of your field of dreams? Was creating a clearing done to ALLOW the dreams to show up? In the movie they cleared away a crop of corn to build a baseball field. Do we need to clear away some of our own corn fields to see the dreams that capture our hearts and then create a path to reach those dreams? It was then I decided to open up a new road for myself. The direction I was meant to travel on. I love baseball. Oh I said that. I love great stories. I said that as well. Let me fuse these two passions, together. Sounds good.” I said to myself. I guess I am pretty corny, huh. That is the birth of Baseball’s Pride and Joy. Talk about a labor of love. This baby has been living inside me for over 30 years. What could be better than finding your love and then nurturing it. I have discovered my essence. Pretty good. When I write these words I see that I am on the field I want to play on. While I am not a N Y Yankee, I am playing fantasy baseball through these stories. A fantasy I had 40 years ago was to play baseball for the New York Yankees. While I did not make the Yankees or Mets or any other team I have always remained a baseball lover. I am making my fantasy baseball story real by giving people the opportunity to write their Major League baseball story. Whether your story is NCAA Baseball or Minor League Baseball or from high school. It does not matter. Write your inspiring baseball story. Now I can provide a place for others to tell their tale of baseball inspiration. Tell your Field of Dreams or be like The Natural even if you are The Rookie. Make your story sing.Make it vibrant.
